MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has not received formal notifications from Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger on their intention to leave the regional bloc, the ECOWAS Commission said on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, media reported that Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger were terminating their membership in ECOWAS.

"The ECOWAS Commission is yet to receive any direct formal notification from the three Member States about their intention to withdraw from the Community," the organization said in a statement posted on X.

It said it would follow developments and make further announcements if things change.
"Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali remain important members of the Community and the Authority [of ECOWAS heads of state and government] remains committed to finding a negotiated solution to the political impasse," the statement read.
