The West is putting pressure on the countries of Latin America to involve them in confrontation with Russia and China, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.Regarding Africa, the ministry said that the desire of countries to gain sovereignty is "impossible to stop," adding that Russia does not hide the fact that it helps African nations in various fields.Typically, Western countries try to "punish" nations that do not share their position through sanctions. There are many examples of such punitive measures, such as the US imposition of several rounds of visa restrictions on Ugandan officials involved in enforcing the country's new anti-gay law because the African country decided not to follow the Western "LGBT* agenda." Another striking example is Cuba, which has been under economic blockade by the United States for several decades only because the island established its own non-pro-American government. Despite the UN's repeated demands to lift sanctions on Cuba, the US has not yet done so.*The "LGBT movement" is classified as extremist by the Russian authorities and is banned in Russia.

West Putting Pressure on Latin America to Involve It in Confrontation With Russia
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The West has been putting pressure on countries that tried to leave its orbit of influence. For example, in December, the US, EU and UK reportedly pressured Liberia, the Marshall Islands and Panama to improve control measures on ship operating under their flags to make sure they don't carry Russian oil sold above the price cap.
The West is putting pressure on the countries of
Latin America to involve them in confrontation with Russia and China, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
"Moreover, the United States continues to perceive Latin America as its ‘backyard,’ counting on its involvement in the global confrontation with Russia and China. Hence, the unprecedented pressure of the ‘collective West’ on the countries of the region, which are determined to follow national interests, diversify external contacts, and build up trade and economic ties," the ministry said in its answers to questions from media sent to Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Regarding Africa, the ministry said that the desire of countries to gain sovereignty is "impossible to stop," adding that Russia does not hide the fact that it helps African nations in various fields.
Typically, Western countries try to "punish" nations that do not share their position through sanctions. There are many examples of such punitive measures, such as the US imposition of several rounds of visa restrictions on
Ugandan officials involved in enforcing the country's new anti-gay law because the African country decided not to follow the Western "LGBT* agenda."
Another striking example is
Cuba, which has been under economic blockade by the United States for several decades only because the island established its own non-pro-American government. Despite the UN's repeated demands to lift sanctions on Cuba, the US has not yet done so.
