The former chief justice and justice minister of Liberia Gloria Maya Musu-Scott received a life sentence in prison for the heinous murder of her niece, the media reported on Wednesday.The retired judge was sentenced after a jury convicted her of the murder of 29-year-old Charloe Musu, the media reported.During Musu-Scott's trial, it was reportedly revealed that she and three other women, had "wilfully, intentionally, purposely and maliciously inflicted several bodily injuries" on her niece at her home last June.The indictment said that Musu suffered injuries to her chest, right hand, left thigh and left armpit as a result of being stabbed with a sharp object, believed to be a knife, the reports said.Musu-Scott, who is 70 years old, is currently incarcerated but intends to challenge the decision through the appeals process, the media revealed.Musu-Scott is a renowned judge and politician in Liberia who fought for women's rights.She held the position of Liberia's justice minister and then served as its highest-ranking judge, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, until her retirement in 2003.Then, she subsequently pursued a career in politics, serving as a legislator in Maryland County until 2012, according to reports. Finally, in 2012, she assumed the position of head of the Constitutional Review Committee.Another high-ranking official, Ousman Sonko who was Gambia's interior minister from 2006 to 2016, will be tried in the Swiss Federal Criminal Court for crimes against humanity, allegedly committed under the rule of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, TRIAL International, a Geneva-based nongovernmental organization, reported in January.
