PARIS (Sputnik) - Gabriel Attal, the 34-year-old education minister of France, has been appointed the new prime minister, becoming the youngest head of the government in the country's history, the BFMTV broadcaster reported on Tuesday.
Now Attal must submit proposals to President Emmanuel Macron regarding the formation of a new cabinet.
Macron, in turn, welcomed the young appointee.
"Dear Gabriel Attal, I know I can count on your energy and your commitment to implement the rearmament and regeneration project that I announced. Faithful to the spirit of 2017: overcoming and courage. In the service of the nation and the French," the president wrote on X.
Meanwhile, the former French prime minister, Elisabeth Borne, will return to serving as a lawmaker, representing France's Calvados region in the parliament, the broadcaster added.
