The Cathedral of the Nativity, inaugurated by el-Sisi on January 6, 2019, is the largest church in the Middle East. Located in Egypt's new administrative capital, about 45 km east of Cairo, it can accommodate up to 8,200 worshipers and has a dome 39 meters high.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Saturday evening visited Cairo's Cathedral of the Nativity, the largest in the Middle East, where thousands of Christians gathered to celebrate Orthodox Christmas on January 7, 2024.
President el-Sisi also sent greetings to Pope Tawadros II, leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, and all Christians in the North African nation.
El-Sisi delivered a message of peace and coexistence between Muslims and Christians, calling on all Egyptians to remain united in the face of challenges and difficult circumstances.
The Cathedral of the Nativity, inaugurated by el-Sisi on January 6, 2019, is the largest church in the Middle East. It can accommodate up to 8,200 worshipers and has a dome 39 meters high.
The cathedral is located in the new administrative capital of Egypt, about 45 km east of Cairo. The new city is expected to eventually replace the current capital and house the main government offices and foreign embassies.
