Africa Interested in Russia's Achievements in Information Security, Russian Foreign Ministry Says
On July 28, during the second Russia-Africa Summit, held in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, Russia and African countries, representatives of the African Union and leading African integration associations signed a declaration on cooperation in the field of international information security.
Africa is interested in Russian companies' achievements in information
security, Russian Foreign Ministry's Director of the Department of International Information Security, Artur Lyukmanov told
Sputnik.
"It is no secret that our African colleagues are particularly interested in the achievements of Russian companies in the field of information security, dialogue and exchange of experience with competent authorities, as well as training programs based on our educational institutions," he said.
He drew attention to the fact that for Russia, "Africa is a promising and traditionally friendly region."
The official noted that by the end of 2023, Russian-African cooperation in the field of information security "has reached a qualitatively new level," referring to the adoption of a declaration on international information security at the second
Russia-Africa Summit.
"I will say it bluntly: agreeing on such a multilateral document (48 States have joined it) is already a success in diplomatic practice. [...] The main thing is that this statement demonstrated the convergence of approaches between Russia and the countries of the continent on almost the entire range of international information security issues," the official highlighted.
Lyukmanov revealed that Russia and African nations plan to hold a number of joint events in the field of
information security in the coming years, which will help determine the areas of work, taking into account the needs of all parties.
"In general, the potential for developing cooperation is great, and there is a mutual desire to realize it. The most important thing is that we and the African peoples see each other as equal partners, unlike some countries that are used to seeing the continent as a resource base," he stressed.
According to Lyukmanov, Russia advocates "the need to overcome the so-called
digital divide between the West and the Global South, technological neocolonialism is unacceptable."
Apart from the declaration on the information security, Russia
also signed a separate agreement on cooperation in this field with Ethiopia, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
