Somalia's government has agreed on full security cooperation with the breakaway Somaliland region, Somalian media reported on Saturday. At the talks, the sides agreed to fight organized crime and pledged to prepare a roadmap for negotiations within 30 days, the Garowe Online news website reported. Somalia collapsed as a unified nation in 1991 with the downfall of the country's former President Siad Barre. The international community recognized the Mogadishu-based federal government as the only legitimate authority in Somalia, while chunks of the country in the north and east remain under the control of self-proclaimed and unrecognized Somaliland and Puntland.
