Meet Russia's Three New Civil Aircraft Produced Despite Western Sanctions

Subscribe
After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine in February 2022, the West gradually began to impose a number of large-scale sanctions against Russia, which affected Russian airlines in particular.
Despite the tough Western sanctions and their boycott of the Russian aviation industry, Russia has managed to produce three brand new locally assembled passenger aircraft models.
Since 2022, the United States and European countries banned the sale of aircraft and spare parts to Russia, while Boeing and Airbus refused to service aircraft from the Eurasian country. The sanctions also affected Russian SSJ-100 planes, which consist of 70% imported components, prompting Russia to completely domesticate the production of its own aircraft.
The new civil airliners, named MS-21, SJ-100 and Tu-214, have a range of 4,320 to 7,200 kilometers and a maximum speed of about 850 kilometers per hour. Their passenger capacity varies from 103 to 211 seats.
