The Russian armed forces have completely taken control over the settlement of Maryinka in the Donetsk People's Republic, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Monday. MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The liberation of Maryinka makes it possible to more effectively protect Donetsk from the Ukrainian armed forces, the minister said, adding that this development of events weakens the defense of the Ukrainian military and gives the Russian armed forces additional opportunities for further action.
The Russian armed forces have completely taken control over the settlement of Maryinka in the Donetsk People's Republic, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Monday.
"In the course of active offensive operations... [Russian troops] today have completely liberated the settlement of Maryinka southwest of Donetsk," Shoigu said in a report to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
