On February 25, Senegal will hold presidential elections. Among those vying for the top job are incumbent leader Macky Sall; Senegal's Prime Minister Amadou Ba; the candidate of the country's Rewmi party, Idrissa Seck; a former mayor of Senegal's capital, Dakar, Khalifa Sall, and others.
Senegalese jailed opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has been ordered by the country's court to be reinstated on the electoral list, media reported, citing Sonko's lawyer, Cire Cledor Ly. A state lawyer said the government would appeal the ruling.
Over the past two years, Sonko has been the subject of a series of court cases on charges, which he dismisses as politically motivated.

West Africa Court Says Senegal Did Not Violate Jailed Opponent Sonko's Rights
The cases against Sonko have sparked protests in the country, leading to violence and, reportedly, around 20 deaths. Sonko's supporters blamed the violence on the police's actions, the outlet revealed.
In Senegal's 2019 presidential election, Sonko placed third and is seen as a key challenger in the race to succeed Sall.
