In October, Russian President Vladimir Putin described Rosatom as a company that "has no competitors abroad" and revealed that the corporation is simultaneously building 22 power units in other countries.
Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom is ready to support the construction of nuclear power plants (NPP) in African countries, Alexey Kononenko, vice president of Atomstroyexport, the managing company of Rosatom's engineering division, told reporters.
"Africa is a promising region, we have great prospects and a wide horizon for the construction of nuclear power plants. We are ready to provide the full range of services and all our knowledge and expertise in this field," he said.
He described the El Dabaa nuclear power plant, the first of its kind in Egypt, as the first step toward building nuclear power plants on the continent.
The station is being built in the city of El Dabaa in the Matrouh province on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, about 300 kilometers northwest of the capital, Cairo.
The NPP will consist of four units, each with a capacity of 1,200 MW, with VVER-1200 (water-water) reactors of the latest 3+ generation, meeting the latest safety and efficiency requirements.
Rosatom is the general designer and general contractor of the plant.

How Can Africa Benefit From Russian Nuclear Technologies?
Construction of the first and second units of the El Dabaa NPP began in 2022. Construction of the third unit commenced in early May this year.
In October, Rosatom signed a memorandum with the government of Burkina Faso on the construction of a nuclear power plant. In addition to Burkina Faso, Rosatom is strengthening cooperation with other African countries, including Mali, Zimbabwe and Burundi, with which the company has signed agreements on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Earlier, at the Second Russia-Africa Summit, Rosatom proposed the creation of a nuclear power fleet for Africa to supply the continent with electricity.
