Popular Nigerian singer David Adedeji Adeleke, also known by his stage name Davido, has been recognized by the Georgia House of Representatives as an "outstanding citizen" of the US state, the musician announced on social media.The award was presented after Davido attended a meeting with state officials at the State General Assembly, where he was honored for his musical contributions and positive impact on youth culture.Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. According to media reports, the musician owns a house in Georgia.He burst onto the Afrobeat scene in 2011 after dropping out of university to pursue music, and has since become one of Africa's biggest artists.Additionally, in 2019, Davido was named one of the 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine.This year, he was nominated for a Grammy for Best Global Music Album for his album Timeless, along with two other nominations; Best Global Music Performance for "Feel" and Best African Music Performance for "Unavailable."Competing for all three nominations is another Nigerian Afrobeat star, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, with his album "I Told Them...." and singles "Alone and City Boys."

11:19 03.12.2023 (Updated: 11:36 03.12.2023) The Nigerian musician continues to gain recognition in America: this summer, officials in the city of Houston, Texas, declared July 7, when the artist performed at a sold-out concert packed with 22,000 people, Davido Day.
Popular Nigerian singer David Adedeji Adeleke, also known by his stage name Davido, has been recognized by the Georgia House of Representatives as an "outstanding citizen" of the US state, the musician announced on social media.
The award was presented after Davido attended a meeting with state officials at the State General Assembly, where he was honored for his musical contributions and positive impact on youth culture.
"May this Outstanding Citizen be afforded every courtesy as a Goodwill Ambassador from Georgia in his travels to other states, to nations beyond the borders of the United States of America, or wherever he may hereafter travel or reside. Thank you for your service to our State," the letter of commendation read.
Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. According to media reports, the musician owns a house in Georgia.
He burst onto the Afrobeat scene in 2011 after dropping out of university to
pursue music, and has since become one of Africa's biggest artists.
Davido is a multiple nominee and winner at prestigious music awards including MTV Africa Music Awards, Nigeria Music Video Awards, and BET Awards.
