MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Last week, Israel and Hamas brokered a temporary truce to exchange some prisoners and hostages and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza amid the escalating conflict since early October.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Friday that it had resumed fighting against Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as the latter violated the humanitarian pause by opening fire on the Israeli territory.

"Hamas violated the operational pause, and in addition, fired toward Israeli territory. The IDF has resumed combat against the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip," the IDF wrote on Telegram.

The US media reported late on Thursday, that the two sides had agreed to extend a temporary humanitarian pause for an eighth day.
On October 7, Palestinian movement Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and abducting soldiers and civilians. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of Gaza, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel. On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion into the Gaza Strip.

Hamas Calls Israel Responsible for Resumption of Hostilities in Gaza
The Palestinian movement Hamas on Friday has assigned responsibility on Israel for the resumption of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, and all the movement's proposals to extend the truce have been rejected.
Earlier in the day, the Israel Defense Forces said that Hamas broke the humanitarian pause, prompting Israel to resume combat.
"We hold the occupation [Israel] responsible for the resumption of war and aggression against the Gaza Strip. Negotiations on the extension of the truce were held all night, during which the movement offered to exchange prisoners and the elderly, and also offered to transfer the bodies of those detained as a result of the Israeli bombing," the movement said on Telegram.
The Israeli side refused to consider the proposals of the Palestinian movement, "because it had a preliminary decision to resume criminal aggression," Hamas said.
"The US administration and President Biden bear full responsibility for the continuation of Zionist war crimes in the Gaza Strip after their absolute support [for Israel] and after it [US] gave it the green light again during the visit of their Secretary of State Anthony Blinken yesterday to this entity [Israel] and his statements about the intention of the occupying forces to resume aggression," Hamas said.

Qatar will continue efforts to reach the humanitarian pause, and "will not hesitate to do everything necessary to return to calm," the statement read.
"The Ministry stresses that the continued bombing of the Gaza Strip in the first hours after the end of the pause complicates mediation efforts and exacerbates the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip, and in this context calls on the international community to move quickly to stop the violence," the statement read.
The ministry also called for an immediate ceasefire and ensuring the continuous and unhindered flow of relief convoys and humanitarian aid.
