TUNIS (Sputnik) - On Friday morning, Israel and Hamas launched a four-day truce to exchange some of the prisoners and hostages, as well as allow the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Since then, Hamas has released 13 Israeli hostages each day. Later reports indicated that Tel Aviv was willing to extend the deal if more captives were released.
Palestinian movement Hamas said on Sunday that it supports the extension of the truce with Israel in the Gaza Strip after the expiration of the initial four-day period, while also seeking to release more hostages.
"Islamic resistance movement Hamas is seeking to extend the truce after the end of a four-day period, while seriously trying to increase the number of the released people as stated in the agreement on the humanitarian ceasefire," the movement said in a statement.
On October 7, Palestinian movement Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and abducting soldiers and civilians. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of Gaza, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel. On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion into the Gaza Strip.
On Friday morning, the sides launched a four-day truce to exchange some of the prisoners and hostages, as well as allow the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza, a home to over 2.5 million people. The conflict has so far killed an estimated 1,200 people in Israel and more than 15,000 in Gaza, including more than 6,000 children.

EU's Borrell Says Israel-Hamas 4-Day Truce Should Be Extended, Become 'Sustainable'
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The ongoing four-day ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas should be extended and become "sustainable" so that the sides can start working toward a political settlement, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday.
"Now we have a recent agreement on a four-day truce and the release of the civilian hostages, this is an important first step. We appreciate the role of Qatar, Egypt and others on achieving it, but much more is needed to alleviate the dire situation in Gaza and to find a way out of the current crisis. The pause should be extended to make it sustainable and long lasting while working for a political solution," Borrell said during the Union for the Mediterranean Regional Forum in Barcelona.

Borrell Says 'Appalled' by Israel's New Funding of Illegal Settlement Expansion Amid War
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday that he was "appalled" that Israel had committed new funds to build "more illegal settlements" in the Palestinian West Bank during the Israel-Hamas conflict, saying that the move had nothing to do with the Jewish state's self-defense and security.
"I am appalled to learn that in the middle of a war, Israel commits new funds to build more illegal settlements. This has nothing to do with self-defence and will not make Israel safer," Borrell said on X, formerly known as Twitter, in a now-deleted tweet.
He also called the building of settlements by Israel "a grave breach" of international humanitarian law.
Relations between Palestine and Israel have been hostile since the latter's founding in 1948. The Palestinians seek diplomatic recognition of their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent political and diplomatic entity, and continues to build settlements in the occupied territories over the objections of the United Nations.
In September, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland said that the Israeli authorities had likely been planning a settlement expansion after advancing their plans for 6,300 housing units in Area C, which covers over 60% of the West Bank, and approximately 3,580 housing units in East Jerusalem.

Over 40 Missing Women, Children in Gaza Strip Unlikely Captives of Hamas - Reports
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The four-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas could be extended if the Palestinian movement manages to locate over 40 women and children in the Gaza Strip who are believed to be held hostage by civilians and gangs, the Financial Times newspaper reported, citing Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
"If they get additional women and children, there will be an extension. We don't yet have any clear information how many they can find because … one of the purposes [of the pause] is they [Hamas] will have time to search for the rest of the missing people," the prime minister told the newspaper.
Meanwhile, the Qatari prime minister said Israel could extend the temporary truce if there was evidence that Hamas had more women and children to release, "but nothing beyond that," the newspaper reported.
Al Thani added that Israel's stated goal of eliminating and eradicating Hamas from the Gaza Strip was not realistic.
"At the end of the day, Hamas's destruction by the continuation of this war will never happen. This is just going to fuel the narrative of extremism and radicalisation," the prime minister told the Financial Times, adding that a political solution should be found that would ensure safety for the Palestinian people and for the Israeli people.

CENTCOM Says Yemen Fires 2 Missiles at USS Mason After Ship's Arrival to Assist Tanker
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Two ballistic missiles were fired in the direction of the USS Mason (DDG-87) from Yemen after it arrived to assist a reportedly hijacked tanker, the Central Park, which was carrying a cargo of phosphoric acid, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Fox News reported that five suspected pirates who attacked the tanker Central Park off the coast of Yemen were detained and questioned by the US military. The ship's crew and cargo were reportedly unharmed. CENTCOM confirmed the information that the USS Mason came to the rescue.
"At approximately 0141 on Nov. 27 Sanaa time [22:41 GMT Sunday], two ballistic missiles were fired from Houthi controlled areas in Yemen toward the general location of the USS MASON (DDG 87) and M/V CENTRAL PARK. The missiles landed in the Gulf of Aden approximately ten nautical miles from the ships," CENTCOM said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The command also said that the USS Mason was completing its response to the Central Park's distress call "at the time of the missile launches" from Yemen.
"There was no damage or reported injuries from either vessel during this incident," CENTCOM added.
Media reported on Sunday that the Israeli-linked Central Park had been hijacked off the coast of Yemen. US media later reported that a US warship responded to a distress call from the vessel and that it was safe and not hijacked.

US Military Detains Hijackers of Israeli-Linked Tanker Off Yemeni Coast - Reports
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Suspected pirates who attacked the Central Park tanker off the coast of Yemen have been detained and questioned by the US military, with the ship's crew and cargo unharmed during the operation, Fox News reported.
On Sunday, the Israeli-linked Central Park, a phosphoric acid tanker owned by London-based company Zodiac Maritime, was hijacked off the coast of Yemen. The 22-member crew included nationals from Russia, Vietnam, Bulgaria, India, Georgia and the Philippines. US media reported that a US warship responded to a distress call from the vessel and that it was safe and not hijacked.
"[The ship] is safe and all of the crew, the vessel, and the cargo are unharmed," a Zodiac spokesperson was quoted as saying by the broadcaster.
Sources told Fox News that five armed militants, believed to be pirates, seized the tanker but were unable to reach the crew members who had locked themselves in a safe room. After an unsuccessful attempt to break down the door, the militants attempted to return to the Yemeni coast in their boat.
US Navy personnel then pursued the suspects, firing warning shots as a US attack helicopter chased them. A Japanese destroyer assisted the aircraft carrier USS Mason in intercepting the boat. The individuals were detained and questioned by US military counter-piracy officials, the broadcaster added.
This was the third maritime attack amid the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with militant groups targeting Israeli ships. On November 19, another ship believed to belong to an Israeli company was attacked in the Red Sea by Yemen's Houthis. The rebels said they would treat its 25-member crew as guests as long as they were not Israelis, and warned that they would continue to target Israeli-linked ships until Israel stopped attacking Gaza. On Friday, another Israeli-linked container ship, the CMA CGM Symi, was attacked by a drone in the Indian Ocean.

Biden Will Not Attend COP28 in Dubai Due to Gaza Conflict - Reports
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - US President Joe Biden will skip the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which will take place from November 30-December 12 in Dubai, The New York Times reported on Monday, citing a White House official.
The reason for such a decision by the US president could be the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has recently taken a lot of time from Biden, the report read, citing the official.
The newspaper added that leaders from about 200 countries, as well as Pope Francis, are expected to attend the summit.
