CAIRO (Sputnik) - The escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine since early October has resulted in the deaths of nearly 1,200 people in Israel and over 14,800 in the Gaza Strip.
A four-day truce between Israel and Palestinian movement Hamas goes into effect at 07:00 am local time (05:00 GMT) on Friday.
On Wednesday, Israel and Hamas confirmed that they had agreed to a four-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with the cessation of all hostilities and the release of 50 Israeli hostages in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners. Later, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said that the truce will begin on Friday and Hamas will release first hostages at 04:00 pm on that day.
On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing around 1,200 people and abducting over 200 others in neighboring Israeli communities.
Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel. On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion inside the Gaza Strip with the declared goal of eliminating Hamas fighters and rescuing the hostages.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Friday confirmed the release of 24 hostages from the Gaza Strip.

Israel released 39 Palestinian prisoners on Friday as part of the truce deal, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari said.
"We also confirm the release of 39 women and children held in Israeli prisons, as part of the implementation of the commitments of the first day of the agreement," the spokesman wrote on X.

Seventy Patients Evacuated from Northern Gaza Hospital to South - Palestine Red Crescent
Seventy patients and wounded people from Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the north of the Gaza Strip are being evacuated south, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said on Friday.
"Evacuation of 70 wounded and patients from Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, is now heading south Gaza strip with the PRCS ambulances, accompanied by UN vehicles," the organization said on X.

Head of Hamas Political Bureau Says Confirms Commitment to Ceasefire Agreement
The politburo chief of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh, on Friday reaffirmed the commitment to the agreement on a four-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as long as Israel adheres to it.
"We reaffirm our commitment to implementing the agreement and ensuring its success as long as the enemy complies with this agreement," Haniyeh said in a video message, published by the movement on Telegram.

Iranian Foreign Minister, Hamas Leader Discuss Truce in Gaza Strip - Reports
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Thursday held a meeting in Doha with the politburo chairman of Palestinian movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, during which they discussed a temporary truce in the Gaza Strip, the IRNA news agency reported.
The top Iranian diplomat was reportedly briefed on the latest developments in the enclave.
This was Haniyeh's third official meeting with Amirabdollahian in Qatar since the latest escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, IRNA reported.

US billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk may visit Israel next week to meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli broadcaster Channel Rainbow 12 reported on Friday.

UK to Allocate Additional $37Mln in Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Strip
The United Kingdom announced on Friday that it would allocate a further 30 million pounds ($37.6 million) in humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, bringing the aid the UK has sent to Palestinian civilians since October 7 to 60 million pounds.
Earlier on Friday, the fourth UK aircraft carrying 23 tonnes of humanitarian aid for Gazans landed at the Egyptian airport of El Arish.
"The Foreign Secretary [David Cameron] has announced that the UK will provide a further £30 million in humanitarian aid which will support trusted partners, including UN agencies on the ground, to deliver lifesaving aid to people in Gaza. It brings to £60 million the additional aid announced by the UK for Palestinian civilians since the crisis started in October," the UK government said in a statement.
The funds will be spent mainly on urgent needs such as shelter and medical care, the statement added.
The UK foreign secretary is expected to meet with aid agencies delivering UK-funded humanitarian aid to Gaza, according to the statement.
Cameron stressed that the protection of civilians was the UK’s top priority.
"It is vital to protect civilians from harm, and we are urgently looking at all avenues to get aid into Gaza, including land, maritime and air routes," he said.

Air Raid Alert Sounds in Eilat in Southern Israel Amid Truce
An air raid alert has gone off in the resort town of Eilat in southern Israel in light of the truce between Israel and Hamas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Friday.
"Sirens sounded in the city of Eilat," the IDF wrote on Telegram.
Earlier in the day, about 15 minutes after the truce went into effect, the IDF said that an air raid alert had sounded near the border of the Gaza Strip.

Israel Begins Preparations for Release of 39 Palestinians Under Deal With Hamas - Reports
The Israel Prison Service has received the list of 39 Palestinians who are set to be freed under the deal with Hamas on Friday, starting the relevant preparations, the Channel 13 broadcaster reported.
At around noon local time, this group of prisoners is to be transferred from Israeli prisons to Ofer Prison in the West Bank, from where they return to their places of residence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the broadcaster said.
Before this, the released prisoners will undergo a medical examination and sign a document in which they undertake to no longer engage in terrorism. Then, they will meet with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Israel has allowed eight tanks with fuel and cooking gas into the Gaza Strip as part pf the truce deal with Hamas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Friday.
"This morning (Friday), four tankers of fuel and four tankers of cooking gas were transferred from Egypt to UN humanitarian aid organizations in the southern Gaza Strip via the Rafah Crossing. This was approved by the government of Israel as part of the pause and the framework for the release of the hostages agreed with the United States and mediated by Qatar and Egypt. The fuel and cooking gas are designated for operating essential humanitarian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip," the IDF wrote on Telegram.

IDF Reportedly Calls on Gazans Not to Return to Enclave's North Despite Truce
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has dropped flyers over the Gaza Strip, calling on residents not to return to their homes in the enclave's north, as it is still a war zone despite the four-day truce that commenced on Friday morning, the Israeli media reported, citing an IDF spokesperson.
Palestinian authorities have been calling on displaced residents of the enclave to return to their homes after the start of the truce, the newspaper added.
At the same time, residents of Beit Hanoun in the northeastern Gaza Strip begin returning to the city after the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the truce going into effect, the Al Mayadeen broadcaster reported.

An air raid alert has gone off near the border of the Gaza Strip, about 15 minutes after the start of the truce between Israel and Hamas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Friday.

Continuation of Truce in Gaza May Prevent War Expansion: Iranian Foreign Minister
A continued cessation of hostilities between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas may prevent the war expansion, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

"A continued ceasefire [in the Gaza Strip] may prevent the expansion of the war scale [...] At a meeting with the leaders of the [Palestinian] resistance, I learned that if Israel continues to commit war crimes and genocide, then a tougher and more complex resistance scenario will be realized," he said.

The top Iranian diplomat, who is on a Middle East tour, arrived in Qatar from Lebanon today. In the Lebanese capital, the minister said, he held meetings with Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Shiite movement Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and a number of leaders of Hamas and the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry has delivered another batch of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, ministry spokesman Roman Okhotenko said.

A commander of the naval forces of Hamas in Khan Yunis, a city in the south of the Gaza Strip, has been killed, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.
"IDF fighter jets, directed by IDF and ISA [Israel Securities Authority] intelligence, killed Amar Abu Jalalah, commander of the Hamas naval forces in Khan Yunis, and an additional operative in Hamas’ naval forces," IDF said.
