DOHA (Sputnik) - Recently, the Middle East has been in the spotlight of the world community due to the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. On October 27, Israel declared an expansion of its ground operation in the Gaza Strip to destroy Hamas militants and free Israeli captives taken by the Palestinian movement earlier in the month.
The civilian death toll in the Gaza Strip has surpassed 13,000 since the Israel-Hamas conflict began on October 7, the enclave’s authorities said Sunday.
"More than 13,000 people have fallen victim to the Israeli aggression, more than 5,500 of them are children, 3,500 are women. More than 30,000 others have been wounded, more than 75% of them children and women," a press statement quoted by Lebanese news channel LBCI read.
The Israeli attacks are believed to have trapped an estimated 6,000 people under the rubble, including more than 4,000 children and women who remain unaccounted for, Gaza authorities said.

France Concerned About Israeli Military Action at Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital - UN Ambassador
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) - France is deeply concerned about Israel’s military operations at the al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, Permanent Representative of France to the UN Nicolas de Riviere said on Monday.
“We express our deep concern about the Israeli military operations in the al-Shifa Hospital,” de Riviere said during a UN General Assembly briefing on the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Last week, Israeli forces conducted operations at the al-Shifa Hospital complex to search for Hamas infrastructure and assets. Israel claims to have found a “terror tunnel” underneath the hospital, where thousands of civilians and medical staff were located.
The hospital’s patients and doctors will be transported to medical facilities in southern Gaza, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday. However, those hospitals are already overburdened, WHO said, adding that the influx of new patients will place even greater strain on them.

Israel to Continue Operation Against Hamas in Gaza Even After Release of Hostages - Gantz
TEL AVIV (Sputnik) - Benny Gantz, a minister in Israel's emergency war cabinet, said on Monday that Israel would continue its operation in the Gaza Strip to eliminate the Hamas group even after the temporary ceasefire and the release of all hostages.
"Even if there is a pause to release the hostages, we will strike at our enemy as hard as we can. The operation is currently expanding, deepening and gaining momentum," Gantz was quoted as saying by the army radio.
Last week, Al Arabiya reported that Israel and Hamas were close to agreeing on the release of 50 civilian hostages held by Hamas in exchange for a three-day or a five-day humanitarian pause, the release of an equal number of Palestinian women and children held in Israeli prisons and the delivery of fuel and humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that no agreement on the release of hostages had been reached at the moment.

Level of Brutality Towards Children in Gaza Highest in Recent Decades - UN
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The conflict between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas in the Gaza Strip has claimed the lives of over 4,600 children only in the last five weeks, with the level of brutality being the highest in recent decades, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said on Monday.
"More than 4,600 children have been killed in Gaza in only five weeks. This war has claimed the lives of more children in a shorter time and with a level of brutality that we have not witnessed in recent decades," the committee said in a statement released on the occasion of World Children's Day.
The UN body welcomed the UN Security Council's November 15 resolution calling for humanitarian pauses and corridors as a "positive step," but said that it did not end "the war that is waging on children."
"There are 468 million children worldwide living in armed conflict zones, according to Save the Children's research, accounting for about 20% of the world's 2.4 billion children population, based on UNICEF's statistics," the committee said.
The number of children killed or maimed worldwide was 8,630 in 2022, the UN body said, adding that the figure was expected to rise sharply in 2023 due to the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Later in the day, the World Health Organization (WHO) said also that a child was dying every 10 minutes in the enclave due to a severe shortage of food and water as well as ongoing air strikes.
"Homes, schools, and hospitals under bombardment. Children in Gaza are paying the highest price for conflict. They need safety, services, and peace," the WHO said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Last week, UN Children's Fund Executive Director Catherine Russell said that one million children still remained in the Gaza Strip, and many of them were believed to be missing or buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings.

The leaders believe that avoiding further deterioration of the situation between Israel and Palestine is paramount, and the fundamental solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is to implement a two-state principle, the broadcaster reported.
Xi and Macron agreed to continue cooperation on international and regional issues of mutual interest, to contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability in the world, the broadcaster reported.
Xi also said that Beijing was ready to strengthen its cooperation with Paris, including in the UN format.

Twenty-Eight Premature Infants Transported to Rafah Crossing - Palestinian Red Crescent

“The PRCS emergency medical services teams evacuated today 28 premature infants from the Emirates Hospital to the Rafah Crossing, to be transferred to receive medical treatment in Egyptian hospitals,” the organization wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The PRCS added that the operation has been conducted in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The step has been taken “due to the poor health conditions of the children caused by power outages in nurseries and their consumption of contaminated water and milk,” the organization said.
On Sunday, the WHO said that 31 premature and low-birthweight infants were evacuated from the Shifa hospital in the northern Gaza Strip to southern Gaza. The babies were suffering from “serious infections due to lack of medical supplies,” the organization said, citing doctors. The WHO said that six medical workers and 10 members of their families were also evacuated from the hospital.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) entered Gaza's largest hospital complex, Shifa, last Wednesday, after air strikes and a ground operation against Hamas. According to IDF, a Hamas tunnel was found under the complex.
