Sudan Terminates UN Political Mission in Country, UN Says
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) was established in June 2020 to support Sudan's democratic transition. The latter was disrupted after clashes between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out in Sudan on April 15.
The government of Sudan has sent a letter to the United Nations informing it about their decision to terminate the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Friday.
"We have indeed received the letter from the Government of Sudan announcing the government's decision to 'terminate UNITAMS,' which is our special political mission in Sudan," Dujarric told a briefing.

The current mandate of the mission ends on December 3 of this year, Dujarric added.
In April, violent clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the
Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group. Later, the fighting between the military forces spread to other Sudanese regions. The parties to the conflict have since introduced a number of temporary nationwide ceasefires, but none has helped settle the conflict.
UNITAMS, created in June 2020 to support Sudan's democratic transition after the fall of Omar al-Bashir a year earlier, had since been renewed annually for a year.
