MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Western countries have stepped up their military and financial assistance to Ukraine and rolled out several sanctions packages against Russia after Moscow launched its special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022. Moscow has condemned foreign military supplies to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said Thursday he invited his Swedish counterpart, Pal Jonson, to localize the country's defense production in Ukraine.

"Had a productive call with my Swedish colleague Pål Jonson. Grateful for Sweden’s comprehensive support. We discussed further military assistance. Invited Sweden to localize its defence production in Ukraine," Umerov said on social media.

Umerov added that he would be happy to host his Swedish counterpart in Kiev to discuss further bilateral cooperation in detail.

Moscow has condemned foreign military supplies to Ukraine. In April 2022, Russia sent a diplomatic note to all NATO countries on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia.
