SAN FRANCISCO (Sputnik) - APEC is a trade and economic forum of 21 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. This year's summit in San Francisco is taking place from November 11-17.
Ukraine was a background topic at the Leaders' Summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in San Francisco and was mentioned only by several leaders in their speeches, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, who leads the Russian delegation at the APEC summit, said Thursday.
"A number of leaders mentioned Ukraine in their speeches, and they did, but it sounded in the background," Overchuk told reporters.
He added that topics raised at the summit were mostly "related to the climate agenda," although there were some emotional speeches.
Overchuk has also revealed that the Russian delegation still has no plans for any bilateral contacts with US officials at the summit.
"Not yet," Overchuk told reporters when asked whether there were any changes on possible contacts with the United States at the summit.
The deputy prime minister added that the Russian delegation had several meetings with some leaders in "a very normal, positive and economic way."
