Nelson Mandela's great-grandson joined AfroVerdict's host to discuss the importance of the youth in leading our ever-changing world, Russia-Africa relations and the steps South Africa is taking in addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
South African "masses" "stand with Russia", and this does not come as a "return of favor" for supporting the ANC during apartheid, according to Mayibuye Melisizwe Mandela, Nelson Mandela's great-grandson.
"[Russia] has never oppressed any African countries, it has never stolen gold, it has never stolen diamonds, it has never stolen from Africa and has not oppressed us. But it has been there for us, not in the rhetorical capacity. They are placing resources for us in South Africa," Mayibuye says.
In the sphere of tech innovations, the future of the relations between Russia and South Africa will depend on the "transparency", "sharing of ideologies" and "educating each other".
"If we have some sort of innovation or an idea, we can share it with Russia. If they are able to fund it, they can fund it. And if you also have an idea, but you need certain things, you can go to South Africa [...] I think we need that kind of a relationship. It's a sister and brother relationship," South Africa's legend's great-grandson explains.
Mayibuye has a strong opinion on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He believes that closing the "embassies of Israel in South Africa" is not enough.
"We need to even remove food from shelves. Anything that comes from Israel must be banned in South Africa. Because even Nelson Mandela said until Palestinian people are free, we are not free in South Africa," Mayibuye elaborates.
