Many women dream of long beautiful hair. A Nigerian wigmaker has taken matters into her own hands.
A new record for the longest handmade wig was set on Tuesday by Nigeria's Helen Williams, the Guinness World Records (GWR) announced.
The wig is 351.28 meters (1,152 ft 5 in) long and required 11 days and over two million naira (approx. $2,493) to make.
Williams is a professional wigmaker based in Lagos with over eight years of experience.

"I have trained hundreds of students and have made thousands of wigs," she revealed to the GWR.

Despite her extensive work experience, the process of making the world's longest wig turned out to be "exhausting" for Williams, but her friends did not let her give up.

"However, friends and family encouraged me. I did not want to let them down, so I maintained my focus," she said.

If you want to take a look at the longest wig in the world, you can come to the Williams' office — that's where she keeps it and welcomes everyone interested to see her achievement.

The Biggest Challenge

What was really troublesome for the Nigerian wigmaker was finding a sufficient space to lay the wig in a straight line and measure it accurately. None of the places she visited were long enough to accommodate it.
In the end, the only place that was long enough and suitable was the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, which connects the cities of Lagos and Abeokuta.
The new record holder was happy to become the winner.
"This achievement is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I still cannot believe it," she said.
The Guinness World Records also harked back to some other quite fascinating world records, regarding artificial hair.
While Williams made the longest wig, in November 2022, Dani Reynolds from Australia was able to create the world’s widest wig: it turned out to be 2.58 meters (8 ft 6 in) wide.
The world’s tallest wig belongs to Italian Emilio Minnicelli. In 2004, it was demonstrated in the Piazza Maggiore, the main square of Bologna, where it was estimated to be 14.3 meters (46 ft 11 in) tall and weighed an astonishing 26 kg (57 lb).
A Serbian man has proven that men can give women a run for their money when it comes to hair. In 2013, Nikola Kulezic made the longest hair extension on the planet, turning out to be 820.29 meters (2691 ft 3 in) in length.
Meanwhile, another Nigerian world record holder, Hilda Baci, who in June set the record for the longest cooking marathon (93 hours 11 minutes), has been recently dethroned by Irish chef Alan Fisher, who beat her record by over 24 hours.
