November 12 marks Kenya's National Tree Planting Day. The country's citizens join forces to plant trees on this day in support of Kenya's Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Program, which aims to plant and nurture about 15 billion trees by 2032.
Kenyan President William Ruto took part in the initiative to plant 5 billion trees within five years, according to the leader's social networks.

"Natural resources, particularly forests, play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem balance, enhancing biodiversity and sustaining the livelihoods of people and communities across our country," the president said on the occasion of his social networks.

Ruto highlighted the importance of collective approach, when it comes to environment protection.
"Conservation of the environment is the urgent and collective responsibility of our time," the leader added.
The initiative was supported by hundreds of people, who responded to the call to plant 100 million trees in a day.
The large-scale tree-planting event comes as part of the government's ambitious plan to address the consequences of the worst drought in the region in 40 years.
