CAIRO (Sputnik) - Following an October 7 attack by Palestinian Hamas militants, Israel retaliated and imposed a complete blockade on the Palestinian Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off water, food and fuel supplies. Later, Israel launched a ground invasion of the Strip.
Jordan opposes any idea of external governance of the Gaza Strip in the future, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said.
Earlier, White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said Gaza's future should be determined by the Palestinians themselves, but the structure of administering the region after the end of the current conflict with Israel has not been determined yet.
"Jordan rejects any talk of post-war Gaza administration through Arab or non-Arab forces," Safadi said as quoted by Petra news agency.
He said a political solution and a comprehensive and just peace are needed, ensuring the realization of the Palestinians' rights and the creation of their independent state.
On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion inside the Gaza Strip with the declared goal of eliminating Hamas fighters and rescuing the hostages.
The escalation of the conflict has resulted in the deaths of around 1,400 people in Israel and over 10,000 in the Gaza Strip.

Humanitarian Pauses Between Israel-Palestine Should be Coordinated With UN
Humanitarian pauses should be discussed with the United Nations as they are the main humanitarian delivering body - it is especially important with regards to time and locations, the UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Thursday.
“… Any such halt in the fighting and how it would work for humanitarian purposes would need to be coordinated with the United Nations, especially on the issue of timings and location. And obviously, in order for this to be done safely for humanitarian purposes, it would have to be agreed with all parties to the conflict to be truly effective,” Dujarric told a briefing when answering the UN position on the White House announcement that Israel will halt fighting for four hours a day as a ‘humanitarian pause’.
The efforts need to be coordinated with the United Nations as we deliver humanitarian assistance, he added.

Moscow Says Considers Statement About Nuclear Weapons in Israel Provocative, Unacceptable
Russia considers a statement by Israeli Minister for Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage Amihai Eliyahu about the possibility of using a nuclear bomb in the Gaza Strip as provocative and unacceptable, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
"We consider such remarks as provocative, absolute unacceptable and quite noteworthy for several reasons. Firstly, these statements mean that the whole civilian population of the Gaza Strip is being threatened by nuclear weapons ... Secondly, amid Israel's historically developed policy of ambiguity as regards the possession of nuclear weapons, not only do these statements confirm the possession of these weapons, but they also show readiness to consider its use in totally inadequate situations," Zakharova said in a statement when asked to comment on Eliyahu's recent remarks.
In the light of the statement of the Israeli official, Russia thinks it is urgent to consider the creation of a nuclear-free-zone in the Middle East, which has been "torpedoed" by Israel, the diplomat added.
