MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin uses body doubles have been circulating for some time, as the use of body doubles is not a new concept and has been used by various leaders throughout history for security reasons. Many have suggested that the Russian president uses body doubles to stand in for him at certain events.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Saturday dismissed the speculation that Russian President Vladimir Putin has several "doppelgangers," saying that "we have only one Putin."
"You know, you probably read various Telegram channels about how many ‘doppelgangers’ Putin has, don't you? Experts are now guessing there are three or four of them. Who we now see every day, this morning they laid [flowers] at the Minin and Pozharsky [monument] — is this the third or fourth ‘double’? It is incomprehensible, isn't it? We have only one Putin," Peskov said at the international Russia expo forum in Moscow.
There should be no doubts about Putin's "resilience, determination and, most importantly, capability" regarding Russia's response to "the lawlessness of the collective West," Peskov said, adding that no one has ever seen Putin restless, uncoordinated, or inattentive.
"That's why I'm trying to resemble all those qualities in some way," Peskov said.
This is not the first time that Kremlin officials have denied allegations that Putin has one or more doppelgangers.
