Akifi and his wife Olesya were injured when debris from a downed Ukrainian drone fell and set fire to a house overnight into October 12. Their four-year-old daughter and Olesya Akifi's parents were killed in the incident. "The patient continues to receive the necessary care, however, he remains in serious condition, but with positive dynamics," Kuznetsov said. Last month, the Belgorod region health ministry said Akifi would continue his recovery at Vishnevsky Institute of Surgery in Moscow. Dmitry Kiselev, the director general of Rossiya Segodnya, Sputnik's parent media group, said Akifi's recovery was under personal control of Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko and Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Following the incident, Gladkov said that the journalist was in a coma with burns to his respiratory tract as well as upper and lower extremities. The regional health ministry said that Akifi was in a very serious and unstable condition, adding that doctors were doing everything in their power to save his life.
