On October 10, Liberians went to the polls to elect the head of state, the House of Representatives, and half of the Senate. The National Elections Commission announced later that no candidate had obtained the necessary majority of 50% plus one vote to secure a victory.
The National Elections Commission has announced the final results of the October 10 polls in Liberia, revealing that a second round of voting will be held to elect the president of this West African country.
The commission revealed that none of the contenders received the 50% plus one of the votes needed to win the first round. Consequently, incumbent President George Weah will go up against his rival Joseph Boakai.

"With the results of the 10th October polls showing that no presidential ticket obtained 50 percent plus one vote, a run-off election is hereby declared to be held on Tuesday, 14 November 2023 between the two tickets that obtained the highest number of votes – the presidential ticket of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) led by Mr. George Manneh Weah and the presidential ticket of the Unity Party (UP) led by Mr. Joseph Nyumah Boakai," the statement reads.

In the first round, Weah obtained 43.83% of the votes, while Boakai obtained 43.44%. All the other contenders received no more than 3% of the vote, the commission revealed.
