MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Last week, the first 20 trucks with humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip entered the region through the Rafah checkpoint. The cargo was handed over to the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said on Sunday that 14 trucks carrying humanitarian aid arrived in the Gaza Strip.
"14 more trucks have entered Gaza today through the Rafah border crossing, with aid provided by the Egyptian Red Crescent Society and the United Nations," a statement, published by Griffiths on X, said.
A Sputnik correspondent reported last week that about 200 trucks with humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip were stranded on the border with Egypt.
On October 7, Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food and fuel. The blockade was later eased to allow trucks with humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The escalation of the conflict has resulted in thousands of people killed and injured on both sides.

China Concerned About Possible Escalation of Conflict in Israel, Foreign Ministry Says
China is concerned about the possibility of further escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and urges the sides to cease fire, Chinese Special Envoy on the Middle East Zhai Jun said.
"China is deeply concerned about the prospect of further escalation of the conflict," Zhai said at a press conference following the Cairo Summit for Peace.
He also said that the current situation in Palestine remains critical, with the conflict resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and injuries.
"China opposes and strongly condemns all acts that harm civilians, opposes any acts that violate international law, and calls on all parties to maintain calm and restraint to prevent the situation from further deteriorating or even getting out of control, and to prevent more serious humanitarian catastrophe," the diplomat said.
The use of violence to fight violence is a vicious circle that only creates more obstacles on a path to political settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Zhai said.
"Only through an early cessation of fire and hostilities and by facilitating the relaxation of the situation can the necessary conditions for a political settlement be created," he said.

Israeli Defense Minister Expects IDF's Operation in Gaza Strip to Become Last of Its Kind
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Sunday the current military operation of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip was expected to become the last of its kind and result in the disappearance of Hamas, adding that it could take several months for the Israeli military to achieve the goals.
"There are two components — the ability of the air force and the ground maneuver. First of all, this maneuver is expected to become the last in Gaza for one simple reason — there will be no Hamas after it is finished. Let it take a month, two or three, but after that, Hamas will be gone," Gallant told the Israeli air force commander.
