France will halve its military presence in Senegal by the summer of 2024, French broadcaster RFI reported on Thursday. French troops will reportedly go down from 500 to 260, mostly military instructors, remaining in the country. The format of France's military presence in Senegal will change in the coming months. On the one hand, the number of military personnel will be reduced. On the other hand, the training of Senegalese troops will be held in closer coordination with the Senegalese armed forces, the report said. In February, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he intended to significantly reduce the French military presence on the African continent. In June, French newspaper reported that the number of troops at bases in West Africa would be reduced by several hundred soldiers, the changes not affecting the base in Djibouti.
