MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Pyongyang, North Korea for a two-day visit.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui confirmed their the determination to resist the hegemonic aspirations of the United States, leading to an aggravation of the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
"The parties emphasized their determination to resist the hegemonic aspirations of the United States, leading to an aggravation of the situation in the Asia-Pacific region," the ministry said in a statement.
Moreover, Russian and Chinese Foreign Ministers have confirmed their commitment to a diplomatic settlement of the situation on the Korean Peninsula during talks in Pyongyang.
"[The sides] had an interested exchange of views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. Mutual commitment to a political and diplomatic solution to the problems existing here and a readiness to make joint efforts to reduce tensions in the region were confirmed," the ministry said in a statement.

Russia Fully Supports North Korea's Desire to Defend Sovereignty: Lavrov
Moreover, Sergey Lavrov invited his North Korean counterpart, Choe Son Hui, to visit Moscow at convenient time.
"Lavrov invited the DPRK Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui to visit Moscow at a convenient time," the ministry said, adding that the top diplomats also discussed current issues in the development of bilateral relations, including the schedule of political contacts.
The Russian Foreign Minister arrived in North Korea, on Wednesday. According to the official, his visit provided a "good opportunity" to review in detail latest agreements that were reached at the highest level.
The two-day visit was expected to lay the groundwork for a future trip to the country by President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin spokesman told Russian media.
