In June, Ukraine launched its long-announced counteroffensive, which was repeatedly delayed by a lack of military supplies from Western donors. Later, the Ukrainian president admitted that the operation was progressing "slower than desired."
The Ukrainian counteroffensive has failed completely, Russian President Vladimir Putin has told Russian media.
Ukraine is preparing new offensive operations in certain areas of military operations. Russia is responding accordingly, the Russian president stressed.

"As for the counteroffensive, which is allegedly stalling, it has failed completely,” Putin said in video remarks posted to social media by a Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin. "The opposing side is preparing new active offensive operations. We see it and we know it. And we are reacting accordingly."

According to the president, what is happening at the moment all along the line of contact is called "active defense."
"Our troops are improving their position practically in the whole area. It's quite a large area," Putin noted, adding that this applied to the Kupyansk, Zaporozhye and Avdeevka directions.

'The End of Counteroffensive'

On October 13, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya told a session of the Security Council that Kiev's counteroffensive, which began on June 4, could be considered "formally over."
On September 4, Vladimir Putin emphasized that the counteroffensive was "not stagnating," but that it had failed.

According to data from early October, Kiev's attempts to counterattack have cost it more than 90,000 military personnel.

Kiev's armed forces have not achieved their objectives on any of the axes, as Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu noted in early September. On September 26, he said that the losses of the Ukrainian armed forces in September exceeded 17,000 soldiers and 2,700 pieces of equipment.
