Hong Kong Against Illegitimate Sanctions, Welcomes Russian Companies, Consul General Says

BEIJING (Sputnik) - Last year, the South China Morning Post, citing sources, wrote that Russian businessmen had difficulty opening bank accounts in Hong Kong due to Western sanctions, despite the fact that Hong Kong and China did not join them.
The government of the Hong Kong special administrative region of China said sanctions against third countries are not legitimate, and Hong Kong welcomes Russian companies, Russia's Consul General Anatoly Kargapolov said in an interview with Sputnik.
“The Hong Kong government has repeatedly clearly stated that sanctions against third countries are not legitimate and should not be applied. In turn, local businessmen are convinced that introducing politics into business relations creates even greater uncertainty, hampering the recovery of the global economy. So the path here for Russian companies is open," Kargapolov said.
Last year, the South China Morning Post, citing sources, wrote that Russian businessmen had difficulty opening bank accounts in Hong Kong due to Western sanctions, despite the fact that Hong Kong and China did not join them. This information was confirmed to the newspaper by then Russian Consul General in Hong Kong Igor Sagitov.
