CAIRO (Sputnik) - An Egyptian police officer shot dead two Israeli tourists and one Egyptian in the northern Egyptian city of Alexandria, the Sada el-Balad broadcaster reported on Sunday, citing a security source.
Another Egyptian was reportedly injured. The policeman was detained, the source said.
Later, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the deaths of two tourists, adding that along with them a local resident was killed.
"In addition, there is a wounded Israeli in moderate condition," the ministry said.
The incident took place against the background of an unprecedented attack on Israel from Gaza. The Israeli army said that Hamas had launched more than 3,000 missiles, and it also claimed that hundreds of Hamas soldiers had invaded southern Israel border regions. Since then, Israeli forces have dispatched soldiers into the southern regions to reclaim them from Palestinian forces and have started conducting airstrikes on Hamas targets in Gaza.
