A new chief executive officer of Eskom will be named by the end of December, South African Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan revealed, media reported.According to the outlet, the electric company considered about147 candidates during the global search for the top post of the firm, however, failed to "yield a clear-cut set of candidates," but then the board "emerged with a single appointable candidate."In addition, the CEO of the country's freight company Transnet reportedly said that she will resign by the end of October. However, according to Gordhan, the search for the head of this enterprise will be more time-consuming, the media said. The change of leadership in two large corporations takes place amid an energy crisis in the country, that forced Eskom to impose daily blackouts to protect the national grid from overloading. This year, blackouts have intensified in comparison with 2022, according to the enterprise. However, in late August, South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa noted that the energy crisis will be resolved by 2024 as the government is enhancing the energy production. Along with load-shedding, South Africa enhanced international cooperation to overcome the crisis. For instance, the country discussed in middle August with Russia building a gas power plant in the African state. Apart from this, according to agreement with China, signed in late August, Beijing will provide South Africa with some solar and battery units for use in public facilities. In February, Cassim, who has been working for the company since 2001 as a head of the utility's regulation department, replaced de Ruyter as a head of Eskom. The former company's CEO was sacked due to a television interview in which he claimed that officials of the ruling African National Congress are connected to corruption in the enterprise, the media said.

Head of South Africa's Eskom to be Appointed by Year-End: Minister
19:07 06.10.2023 (Updated: 13:28 10.10.2023) In February, former CEO of the South African utility company Eskom, Andre de Ruyter was removed from his position. The enterprise's financial officer Calib Cssim has since occupied the post of the company's interim CEO.
A new chief executive officer of
Eskom will be named by the end of December, South African Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan revealed, media reported.
According to the outlet, the electric company considered about147 candidates during the global search for the top post of the firm, however, failed to "yield a clear-cut set of candidates," but then the board "emerged with a single appointable candidate."
In addition, the CEO of the country's freight company Transnet reportedly said that she will resign by the end of October. However, according to Gordhan, the search for the head of this enterprise will be more time-consuming, the media said.
"It takes long because finding the right person with the right capabilities is a difficult challenge in the South African context," the minister told the outlet, adding: "We have a partnership between government and the private sector, which will ensure that the reorientation and repair process and the improvement in performance will take place sooner rather than later."
The change of leadership in two large corporations takes place amid an energy crisis in the country, that forced Eskom to
impose daily blackouts to protect the national grid from overloading. This year, blackouts have intensified in comparison with 2022, according to the enterprise.
However, in late August, South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa

replaced de Ruyter as a head of Eskom. The former company's CEO was sacked due to a television interview in which he claimed that officials of the ruling African National Congress are connected to corruption in the enterprise, the media said.
