A video recorded on the Ukrainian front shows a wounded Ukrainian soldier being transported away from the combat zone to safety by a group of Russian troops. The evacuation took place amid artillery shelling by the Ukrainian forces in the area.
A soldier of the Southern group of the Russian Armed Forces, who evacuated a wounded Ukrainian from positions that Kiev units were trying to storm, told his story to journalists.
"We received an order to evacuate a prisoner of war. Nobody knew how we should approach him, what will happen there, if there is no ambush. The guys on the front line covered us. My task was to come, see if there was an ambush, and take the prisoner away," the Russian soldier said.
The video obtained by Sputnik depicts the evacuation of the Ukrainian soldier. The footage shows a Russian soldier withdrawing with the Kiev soldier while being targeted by Ukrainian artillery. Despite the dangerous situation, the Russian provided first aid to the casualty.
"It turned out that he was seriously injured. We had to help him. His fingers were hurt, so we had to tighten the tourniquet and give him a pain reliever," he elaborated.
Due to the soldier's poor condition, the Russians had to approach the front line closer than expected to facilitate his transportation. The Ukrainians then began firing at the group. At one point, the shells fell in close proximity to the group, forcing them to leave the wounded man and return to transport him from the battlefield after the shelling stopped. All in all, the Ukrainian was brought alive to Russian positions.
Earlier, an instructor officer of the Southern Group with the call sign "Hades" told Sputnik that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying are to eliminate their soldiers captured by the Russian army directly on the front line in order to prevent any potential information leaks.
