N. Korea Develops Nuclear Arms to Guarantee Rights to Existence, Development, State Media Reports

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In early September, North Korea has reportedly launched the new "tactical nuclear attack submarine," capable of launching an underwater nuclear attack to strengthen the country's nuclear deterrence.
North Korea develops nuclear weapons to guarantee the country's rights to existence and development, deter war and protect peace and stability in the region, North Korean state-run news agency KCNA reported Thursday, citing Choe Ryong Hae, the chairman of the Standing Committee of North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly.
"The DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea], a responsible nuclear weapons state, develops highly nuclear weapons to ensure the rights to existence and development of the country, deter war and defend peace and stability in the region and the rest of the world," the chairman said in a report to the 9th Session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea.

He added that the mission of the country's armed forces is to "defend the national sovereignty and territorial integrity and the rights and interests of the people, protect the socialist system and the gains of the revolution from all threats and guarantee peace and prosperity of the country with powerful military capabilities."
On September 12-17, the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un conducted an official visit to Russia, during which he discussed with the Russian President Vladimir Putin strategic and tactical cooperation between the two states and the military and political situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Europe.
In addition, Kim Jong Un visited the Russian spaceport Vostochny and the aviation plant named after Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Khabarovsk Territory.
According to the North Korean Foreign Ministry, the visit had achieved "the desired results," was "highly appreciated" by the country's authorities and brought the relations between the two states to a "new strategic level" to meet the demand of the "new era" in the geopolitical situation.
