Africa Has 'Huge Craving' for Russia, Putin Seen as Symbol of Struggle for Justice: Foreign Ministry
In late July, St. Petersburg hosted the Second Russia-Africa Summit, where Russian President Vladimir Putin met with African leaders and a number of agreements on cooperation between Russia and the continent in numerous fields was signed.
Africa has a great attraction to Russia and for many people of the continent the Russian President Vladimir Putin is the symbol of the struggle for justice in the world, Russia's Ambassador-at-Large and head of the secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, Oleg Ozerov, said.
"We see a huge craving for Russia in Africa, you can't even imagine," Ozerov said at the international seminar of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, of which he is a council member.
The diplomat said that at the
recent Russia-Africa summit, representatives of African countries approached him and said that "in their countries they love Putin so much, even more than in Russia [itself]."
"Putin today is a symbol of the struggle for justice around the world, for traditional values, for the family and normal healthy relations between people, against all this shaft of perversions that the West, Satanists and other dark forces are trying to unleash on us," Ozerov pointed out.
The diplomat stressed that the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society is working actively to
open branches in Africa. According to him, offices will be opened in Egypt and Tunisia and "will go further."
The Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society is the oldest scientific and humanitarian non-governmental organization in Russia, established by decree of Emperor Alexander III in 1882. Its main goal is to promote pilgrimages to the Holy Land, as well as scientific Palestinian studies and humanitarian cooperation with the countries of the biblical region.
