Burkina Faso's transitional president Captain Ibrahim Traore came to power in September 2022 as a result of a military coup. He overthrew the country's then-leader, Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who himself had become head of state as a result of a military putsch.
Thousands of demonstrants took to the streets of the Burkinabe capital city, Ouagadougou on 26 September, expressing support for the country's leader Captain Ibrahim Traore, local media Burkina24 reported.
According to another outlet, Wakat Sera, the demonstrators gathered at the United Nations roundabout after 20.00 local time (20.00 GMT), a few hundred meters from Traore's residence, and chanted his name while waving Burkinabe and Russian flags.

The crowd was still pouring into the city center at 23.00 local time, Burkina24 said. As the LeFaso media noted, the rally was prompted by calls from activists on social networks.
Furthermore, several demonstrators have also been mobilized in other cities of the country, namely, Bobo-Dioulasso, Yako and Kaya, Wakat Sera reported.
This is not the first time Russian flags have been waved during a rally in Africa. In late July, protesters in Niger took to the streets to support the military leaders, who seized power in the country on 26 July, chanting anti-French slogans and waving the Russian tricolor.
