Nord Stream pipelines is a network of marine gas pipelines running from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea, aimed at supplying Western Europe with natural gas. Exactly one year ago, on 26 September 2022, three out of four Nord Stream pipelines were destroyed in a terrorist attack.
The US presidential administration must respond to the findings of the investigation of American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
"Hersh's investigation is cooler than the Watergate scandal. American presidents have reached a new low. The Biden administration is obliged to give a thorough response on all points," Zakharova said.
The material with Hersh’s investigation into the explosions of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines was published on the journalist’s page on the Substack platform.
The American journalist explained that the administration of US President Joe Biden decided to sabotage the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines due to concerns over potential loss of influence in Germany and Western Europe, driven by the availability of inexpensive Russian gas.

"The Biden administration blew up the pipelines but the action had little to do with winning or stopping the war in Ukraine. It resulted from fears in the White House that Germany would waver and turn on the flow of Russia gas–and that Germany and then NATO, for economic reasons, would fall under the sway of Russia and its extensive and inexpensive natural resources. And thus followed the ultimate fear: that America would lose its long-standing primacy in Western Europe," said Seymour Hersh.

According to him, US Navy experts took several months to prepare the destruction of the gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. He pointed out that two qualified deep-sea divers who were contracted for the job by the US Navy required months of research and practice in the choppy waters of the Baltic Sea.
Moreover, Seymour Hersh added that reports on the operation in Norway aimed at sabotaging the Nord Stream were only sent to the head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, who was in contact with US President, Joe Biden. The journalist also explained that Burns stayed in touch with the people that were planning the attack and the US president, functioning as the sole intermediary between the two parties.
