On September 21, the world celebrated International Peace Day to remind us of the role peace plays in development of countries. However, we cannot ignore the devastating effect foreign influence has on the conflicts across the African continent. Your AfroVerdict host sits down with an expert to ponder on what Africa needs to obtain peace.
Africa "has no history" of meddling in "the domestic affairs of other continents", Dr. Chidochashe Nyere, Research Fellow, Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation, University of Johannesburg, stipulates.
"As Africans, in all of Africa we do believe in peaceful co-existence. Hence, I'm highlighting there's no history whatsoever of Africans leaving their own continent to go and cause havoc elsewhere. I think we do have moral high ground to be pontificating on peaceful solutions," he explains.
Desptie the conflicts on the continent, "not all wars that are fought on African soil are [of] African" origin, due to vast "foreign intervention in Africa".

"It is easy for Africa to be manipulated, particularly by foreign forces, precisely because we are fragmented as Africa. We have to unite not only in word, but in deed," Dr. Nyere states.
