UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – In August, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the country is set to open embassies in Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso as soon as this year.
Equatorial Guinea welcomes Russia's plans to open an embassy in Malabo as it will pave the way for more cooperation between the two countries, Equatorial Guinea Foreign Minister Simeon Oyono Esono Angue told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"Russia should come to Malabo to open the embassy," the Guinean official said on the margins of the UN General Assembly, noting: "We want it to open as soon as possible.”

Guinea's top diplomat stressed that the two countries have good relations, especially in agriculture and defense.
The opening of the embassy will pave the way for more cooperation, he added.
On July 28, at the plenary session of the Secon Russia-Africa summit, which took place on July 27-28, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the resumption of the embassy's activities in Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso after a 30-year break and on July 31, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the relevant orders.
In early August, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia plans to ensure maximum representation in Africa.
