Head of Sudan's Sovereignty Council Goes to Turkey for Talks With Erdogan

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In late August, the Sudanese military Abdel Fattah Burhan chief visited Egypt, which was his first foreign trip since the start of the military conflict with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group in the country, in mid-April. He then visited a number of other countries.
Abdel Fattah Burhan, the head of the Sudanese military and the chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council, went on an official visit to Turkey, where he will hold negotiations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Sudanese armed forces said on Wednesday.
"The head of the Sovereignty Council, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces has left for the Turkish capital of Ankara this morning on an official visit," the armed forces said on social media, adding that Burhan and Erdogan will discuss bilateral relations and ways to enhance them.
On April 15, violent clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the RSF. RSF commander Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo accused Burhan of being reluctant to hand over power to civilian government. The parties to the conflict have since introduced a number of temporary nationwide ceasefires since, but none has helped settle the conflict.
Over 3.7 million people were internally displaced and more than 800,000 Sudanese refugees sought safety and protection across the border due to the conflict, according to UN figures.
