Trade Between Russia, China Could Reach $200Bln As Early As 2023, Putin Says
VLADIVOSTOK, Russia (Sputnik) - The $100 billion mark was reached in 2018. In February 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined a new target of $250 billion a year to increase trade turnover between Russia and China.
Trade between Russia and China could reach $200 billion soon, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.
"Every year we add almost one-third of the volume of trade. And this year, in the first seven months of this year, trade also increased by about the same amount, even more - 24% - already $120 billion. And the task we set with President Xi Jinping to reach $200 billion turnover can be achieved in the near future, as early as this year," Putin said during a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Russia's Vladivostok.
In late June, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the Russian-Chinese trade and economic cooperation
continues to expand, despite attempts by some countries to interfere.
According to China's customs authorities, in 2022, Russia-China trade surged by 29.3% to a record $190.271 billion.
The 8th EEF is taking place on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University from September 10-13.
