Spain has made an initial contribution of 1 million euros ($1.07 million) to assist the victims of the deadly earthquake that hit Morocco last week, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on Tuesday. Media reported earlier this week that Spain had also sent a canine rescue team to Morocco where the search for survivors of the devastating earthquake continued around the clock. Meanwhile, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said Tuesday that the city would donate 500,000 euros from its budget to Morocco to help it with the disaster cleanup. The aid will be channeled through the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), which supports humanitarian organizations currently working in Morocco, Hidalgo added. According to a communique issued by the Paris city hall, the French capital is also calling on all citizens to take part in the urgent collection of donations to help the people of Morocco or to donate to French non-governmental organizations working in the country. On Monday, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said that France would allocate 5 million euros to nonprofit organizations in Morocco to help deal with the aftermath of the earthquake, although there had been no official request from Rabat amid the recent tensions between the two countries. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 kilometers, and was followed by at least four aftershocks of up to 4.8-magnitude. Media reported on Monday that the death toll from the earthquake reached 2,862 people, while over 2,562 others received injuries.

Spain Donates $1Mln to Morocco to Help Deal With Earthquake Aftermath
MADRID (Sputnik) - Last Friday, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit Morocco 77 kilometers (48 miles) southwest of the city of Marrakesh with a population of 839,000 people.
Spain has made an initial contribution of 1 million euros ($1.07 million) to assist the victims of the deadly earthquake that hit Morocco last week, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on Tuesday.
"Spain stands with Morocco. We have made an initial contribution of 1 million euros via [the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation] at the request of [the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies] to assist the earthquake victims," Albares wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"500,000 euros. This is the emergency aid that Paris will promptly allocate to Morocco," she wrote on X.
The aid will be channeled through the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), which supports humanitarian organizations currently working in Morocco, Hidalgo added.
