In late July, Burkinabe President of Transition Ibrahim Traore told Sputnik Africa that military-technical cooperation between Russia and his country is developing "very well," noting that Burkina Faso can always rely on the range of Russian weapons available for purchase to strengthen its armed forces in the fight against terrorism.
Burkina Faso's President Ibrahim Traore met in Ouagadougou on August 31 with a Russian delegation led by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunous-Bek Evkurov, local media reported.
The parties discussed the state and prospects of their military-technical cooperation, in the wake of the meeting of Burkinabe and Russian leaders during the second Russia–Africa Summit, held at the end of July in Saint Petersburg.
The Russian delegate assured Ibrahim Traore of Moscow's support for the transitional authorities in Burkina Faso and the people of the country in all areas of development, according to the agency.
The leaders also evaluated the overall security situation in the Sahel, which has been plagued by terrorism for years.

Mali also on the program

On the same day, the Russian Defense delegation led by the deputy minister was received by the President of Mali's transition Assimi Goita in Bamako.
The talks focused on strengthening cooperation ties in defense and security between the two countries and, as in Burkina, the security situation in the Sahel. Burkina Faso and Mali both face jihadist violence and are ruled by military governments who took power between 2020 and 2022.
