Earlier on Wednesday, the Gabonese military, announced the cancellation of the recent presidential election results and the dissolution of "all the institutions of the republic," closing the national borders until further notice.
Gabon, a Central African nation, witnessed unexpected events after the presidential elections in August 2023. Following the announcement of President Ali Bongo Ondimba's re-election for a third term with 64.2% of the vote on Wednesday, the Gabonese military declared the cancellation of the election results and the dissolution of all institutions of the republic.
The 64-year-old president was first elected the head of state in 2009 after the death of his father, Omar Bongo Ondimba, who had served as the country's ruler for over 40 years.
