The 15th BRICS Summit was held on August 22-24 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The issue of BRICS expansion was one of the key topics of the event, which resulted in the official invitation of six new members to the bloc.
The expansion of BRICS is aimed at changing the world order, which is considered as "too Western," but it may end up resulting in the world's "fragmentation," French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday.
"The expansion of BRICS is evidence of the intention to build an alternative world order, which is seen as too Western. All this is in the context of the confrontation between China and the United States, which also violates international law and the accepted order in international trade," Macron said during a conference of ambassadors at the Elysee Palace, broadcast on social media.
This expansion of the bloc of the world's largest emerging economies also creates the risk of a "fragmentation of the world," which should be avoided, the French president said, adding that Paris is determined to talk with all partners.
