Joining BRICS Will Allow Ethiopia to Intensify Trade Cooperation, Says Ambassador in Moscow

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The participation in BRICS will allow Ethiopia to intensify cooperation in such fields as trade, tourism and technology transfer, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Russia Cham Ugala Uriat told Sputnik on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Ethiopia was invited to join the BRICS bloc as a full member from January 1, 2024, along with Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
"The economies of all member countries are growing at a very fast pace, so BRICS membership gives us the opportunity to work together with these countries in trade, tourism, technology transfer and many other aspects. We may be able to work with them and benefit from it," Uriat said.
Ethiopia looks forward to working with new markets within BRICS, the ambassador said, adding that the economies of participating countries surpass the of the G7 countries.
The 15th BRICS Summit, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, the bloc's 2023 chair, is closing its doors on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that BRICS leaders had decided to invite Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to join the group with full membership from January 1, 2024.
