Ukraine has been sending drones into Russian territory almost daily since Kiev launched its counteroffensive in early June. The United Nations said Friday following a botched drone strike on Moscow that it did not want to see any targeting of civilian infrastructure.
Kursk Region Governor Roman Starovoit said on Sunday that a Ukrainian drone attacked the building of the railway station, causing five people to be slightly injured.
"Attack of a Ukrainian drone in Kursk. According to preliminary information, it crashed into the roof of the railway station building, after which a fire broke out on the roof. Five people were slightly injured from glass fragments," the governor said on Telegram.
Starovoit noted that all operational services are on site, while the details of the incident are being specified.
Later in the day, the governor said that the roof, facade and platform of the station were damaged in the attack.
"The roof, facade, and first platform were damaged. Also, as a result of the blast wave, there is damage in the waiting room and the pedestrian tunnel. We will start repair work as soon as possible. Boarding trains after inspection is now carried out through the north and south sides without entering the station," Starovoit said.
He also said that, at the time of the explosion, there were 50 passengers in the building, who were promptly evacuated. Two of the five injured people refused medical treatment, and three were sent to the hospital for examination, after which they were sent home, the governor added.
