Ethiopian Airlines will start manufacturing aircraft parts in a joint venture with US-based Boeing at an initial cost of $15 million, the flag carrier said in a statement on Friday.According to the statement, the airline signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ethiopian Investment Commission and the Ethiopian Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) to build a facility for the manufacturing of aerospace parts near Kilinto Industrial Park, located within the capital Addis Ababa.Under the agreement, the airline will acquire four hectares of land inside Kilinto Industrial Park, one of the 12 state-owned industrial parks managed by the IPDC. Ethiopian Airlines is planning to invest $15 million to build the facility during the first phase of the project, which is aimed to enhance its aerospace manufacturing capacity. The investment deal is part of the airline's manufacturing plan that was launched in 2009. The facility will produce various aerospace internal parts including aircraft thermo-acoustic insulation blankets, and electrical wire harnesses. These aircraft internal components will be supplied to Boeing, Airbus and an Italian aircraft manufacturing company, according to the IPDC.Aklilu Tadesse, CEO of the IPDC, who was present at the signing ceremony, applauded the airline's achievements, noting that it is impressive that the airline has moved beyond passenger transportation to the manufacturing sector and that this investment has been successful.It is expected that upon completion, the facility will create employment opportunities for more than 300 Ethiopians, as well as generate foreign exchange.

According to the statement, the airline signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ethiopian Investment Commission and the Ethiopian Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) to build a
facility for the manufacturing of aerospace parts near Kilinto Industrial Park, located within the capital Addis Ababa.
"Ethiopian Airlines Group, Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC), and Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) inked an agreement where Ethiopian Airlines will set up an aerospace parts manufacturing facility on a 4 hectares plot of land at the Kilinto II Industrial Park," the statement read.
Under the agreement, the airline will acquire four hectares of land inside Kilinto Industrial Park, one of the 12 state-owned industrial parks managed by the IPDC. Ethiopian Airlines is planning to invest $15 million to build the facility during the first phase of the
project, which is aimed to enhance its aerospace manufacturing capacity.

Aklilu Tadesse, CEO of the IPDC, who was present at the signing ceremony, applauded the airline's
achievements, noting that it is impressive that the airline has moved beyond passenger transportation to the manufacturing sector and that this investment has been successful.
"As the airline’s supply of aircraft parts to Boeing will continue to upsurge, the new facility will enable the airline to cater for the growing demand thereby creating additional employment opportunities and foreign exchange earnings," Ethiopian Airlines said.
