MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Peace and Security Council of the African Union has decided to refrain from using force against rebels in Niger, French media reported on Wednesday, citing sources.
The decision was made during a council meeting on Monday, the newspaper said, adding that the council also decided to temporarily suspend Niger's participation in the African Union.

On July 26, Niger's presidential guard ousted and detained President Mohamed Bazoum. The guard’s head, Gen. Abdourahmane Tchiani, proclaimed himself interim leader.
Afterwards, ECOWAS issued an ultimatum to utilize military means in case the Niger's military do not return the president to power.
